Gilles Savard
Gilles Savard has been a professor at Polytechnique Montréal since 1993 in the Department of Mathematics and Industrial Engineering, which he chaired from 2001 to 2007. From 2007 to 2017, he served as Director of Research, Innovation and International Affairs and since 2017, he has been Director of the Institute for Data Valorization, IVADO.
Geneviève Fioraso
Former Minister of Higher Education and Research and Former Secretary of State for Higher Education and Research, Geneviève Fioraso was also a Member of Parliament for Isère from 2007 to 2017. She started her career as an English teacher, then joined the management of the Grenoble-based start-up Corys. In 2003, she became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sem Minatec Entreprises, an innovation platform in the non-technical and microtechnology sectors. She also co-led the Giant Innovation Campus with the CEA. For the past 2 years, she has chaired the Strategic Orientation Council of the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI) in Vienna. Ms. Fioraso has held the position of President of the IRT of Saint Exupéry in Toulouse since April 2019.
Alain Aubertin
Alain Aubertin holds a Ph.D. in innovation management and a master's degree in environmental engineering, both from Polytechnique Montréal, and is Vice-President of Business Development and International Affairs and Regional Director for Quebec at CARIC. At the same time, he assumes the role of Vice-President, Business Development, Network and Innovation Process for the Consortium for Research and Innovation in Aerospace in Quebec (CRIAQ).
George Romanski
George Romanski started his professional career as a graduate Programmer in 1970. For the next 20 years, he developed compilers, run-time systems, and gradually moved to focusing on real-time systems. In 1990, he started work on Safety Critical Systems. In 1999, he co-founded Verocel, and as CEO led the company to develop tools and support certification projects in the aviation and many other industries. He was involved in working groups that developed DO-178C and supplements, DO-248C, ARINC-653, and many others. Through his direct involvement on many certification projects, he has a wealth of experience in showing compliance with the safety regulations. He joined the FAA in 2017, as the Chief Scientific & Technical Advisor for Aircraft Computer Software.
Giuliano Antoniol
Giuliano Antoniol is a Full Professor at Polytechnique Montréal in the Department of Computer and Software Engineering. His areas of expertise include Research-Based Software Engineering, Software Maintenance and Evolution, Reverse Engineering and Static Code Analysis, Empirical Software Engineering and Quality Assurance. He holds the Canada Research Chair in Software Modification and Evolution.
Freddy Lecue
Dr. Freddy Lecue is the Chief Artificial Intelligence (AI) Scientist at CortAIx (Centre of Research & Technology in Artificial Intelligence eXpertise) at Thales in Montreal – Canada. He is also a research associate at INRIA, in WIMMICS, Sophia Antipolis – France. Before joining the new R&T lab of Thales dedicated to AI, he was AI R&D Lead at Accenture Labs in Ireland from 2016 to 2018. Prior joining Accenture he was a research scientist, lead investigator in large scale reasoning systems at IBM Research from 2011 to 2016, a research fellow at The University of Manchester in the UK from 2008 to 2011 and research engineer at Orange Labs in France from 2005 to 2008.)
Jean-Michel Loubes
Jean-Michel Loubes is Professor of Applied Mathematics at the Institute of Mathematics of Toulouse, holder of the "Fair and Robust Learning" Chair at the Institute of Natural and Artificial Intelligence of Toulouse (ANITI). After a PhD in Toulouse and Leiden, he was a CNRS researcher at the University of Orsay and then at the University of Montpellier from 2001 to 2007. Since 2007, he has been a professor at the University of Toulouse, leading the Statistics and Probability team from 2008 to 2012. He has worked in mathematical statistics on estimation methods and optimal speeds in Machine Learning. His current research focuses on the application of optimal transport theory in Machine Learning and on the issues of fairness and robustness of Artificial Intelligence. Very involved in the links between the academic world and industry, he was regional manager from 2012 to 2017 of the CNRS Agency for the Promotion of Mathematics and has been a member of the Scientific Committee of the CNRS Institute of Mathematical Sciences and their Interaction (INSMI) since 2019.
François Laviolette
Professor François Laviolette is the founding director of the Big Data Research Centre (BDRC) at Université Laval, which brings together more than 50 researchers from 5 faculties working on various fundamental and applied aspects of data science. His research focuses on artificial intelligence, with a focus on machine learning. He is a leader in PAC-Bayesian theory, a branch of learning theory that provides a better understanding of existing machine learning algorithms, and also enables the design of new ones. His research interests include the development of new learning algorithms to solve new types of learning problems, including problems related to genomics and proteomics, drug discovery, and more. In this field, he has worked on interpretable artificial intelligences that can reveal new knowledge, giving information about how decisions are made. Part of his job is to extend interpretable AI to other fields, including insurance. In this regard, he recently held a Research Chair in Machine Learning.
Annie Ross
Annie Ross is Associate Director of the Department of Training and Research and Full Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Polytechnique Montréal. She is also Chair of the University of Toulouse CHASC in the Control of Vibrations in Sandwich Composite Structures in Aeronautics (ISAE-Supaéro) and Holder of the Safran TAPPIS Industrial Chair in the Development of Functionalized Acoustic Materials for Turbojet Composite Structures. His areas of expertise include mechanical vibration and impact noise in applications in aeronautics, land vehicles etc.
Phil Cole
Phil Cole joined Marinvent as VP Business Development in December 2011. Since that date, Phil has also taken up roles of VP Business Development for Marinvent's Advanced Aerospace Solutions Joint Venture and for Marinvent's recently launched sister company Certification Center Canada. He is responsible for all front end of the business activities of the company including marketing, sales, business development and contracts for all three companies.
Grégory Flandin
Gregory Flandin is Program Director – Artificial Intelligence for Critical Systems at IRT Saint Exupéry.
A graduate of Supaéro (in 1997) and a PhD from INRIA (in 2001), Grégory began his career at Airbus Defence and Space in the engineering of earth observation systems. He joined IRT Saint Exupéry in 2014 where he set up the Artificial Intelligence Competence Center and then took over the management of the Artificial Intelligence program for critical systems.
Kevin Heffner
Kevin Heffner joined CRIM in 2017 as Director of Innovation. After starting his career with NASA, he obtained his PhD on aircraft stability and control as part of research conducted for the Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales in France. Kevin has over 30 years of experience in numerical computing, modeling and simulation, and systems engineering. Its core business for the past ten years has been in the practical use of artificial intelligence technologies for applications in the aerospace and defense sector. His recent research focuses on the development of intelligent systems, including intelligent drones.
Laurent Gardes
After 20 years in the telecoms and digital television industry at Philips and Cisco, Laurent Gardes made a professional reconversion to the railway sector and the field of data science and AI. After pursuing a master's degree specialized in the field of smart mobility, he joined the SNCF 1 year and a half ago and has been leading a team for 4 months that explores foresight topics in AI with a focus on innovation and research. The topics covered by his team range from intelligent interfaces to satellite vision network monitoring, chatbots, behavioral analysis and passenger flow prediction.
Yves Jacquier
Dr. Yves Jacquier joined Ubisoft Entertainment Inc. in 2004 and has held various positions associated with the studio's rapid growth: Director of Online Services, then IT. In 2008, he took charge of the production services studios with the mission of bringing them to the forefront of the industry by developing performance capture, biometrics and telemetry services. In parallel with the development of production services activities, he developed an academic R&D strategy that resulted in a chair in artificial intelligence (deep learning) in 2011 and the creation in 2016 of the first academic application laboratory in the entertainment industry: Ubisoft – La Forge. Since the beginning of his career in electronic engineering applied to the medical field, then in particle physics, he has accumulated numerous experiences in the development of technological innovation. He was previously project manager in telecommunications in France and research engineer for CERN (European Council for Nuclear Research) on the ATLAS experiment. He is also a member of the board of directors and scientific advisor of the CDRIN (Center for Development and Research in Digital Imaging) and an enthusiastic science popularizer for Ubisoft.
Nicolas Saunier
Nicolas Saunier holds an engineering degree and a PhD in Computer Science from Télécom ParisTech. He worked for four years at the French Institute of Science and Technology for Transport, Planning and Networks (IFSTTAR) for his PhD, then four years at the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC) with Professor Tarek Sayed. He completed a four-month sabbatical in 2015 at the Department of Roads and Transport at Lund University. He was recruited in 2009 to the Department of Civil, Geological and Mining Engineering at Polytechnique Montréal, where he is currently a full professor of transportation engineering. His areas of interest are intelligent transportation, road safety, and data science for transportation. His research has been funded by public and private sources, in particular the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the Fonds de recherche Québécois – Nature et Technologies (FRQNT), the Institut de Valorisation des Données (IVADO), Transport Québec (MTQ), Transport Canada, the City of Montreal and WSP Canada. He is a member of IVADO and the Interuniversity Research Center on Enterprise Networks, Logistics and Transport (CIRRELT), and co-directs its Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) laboratory. He is a member of the Research Chair on the Evaluation and Implementation of Sustainability in Transportation at PM (MOBILITY Chair) directed by Catherine Morency and of two committees of the Transportation Research Board (TRB): evaluation, analysis and safety data (ANB20) and pedestrian (ANF10).
Mike McNair
Mike McNair has been a technology leader in military/defense, academic and commercial environments for over 30 years. In his current role at Bell – Textron, he is leading intelligent air systems activities in autonomy, cyber-security, artificial intelligence, and human-machine teaming. Academically, he brings a B.S. in Physics from Texas A&M University and an M.S. in Systems Engineering from The George Washington University. He has held his PMI Project Management Professional certification since 2007. Professionally, he has participated in and led numerous research and engineering efforts ranging from hand-held gas detectors to satellite systems and military aircraft simulators to autonomous vehicles. He has had technical and programmatic responsibility for programs valued from $50k to those exceeding $50M. His career has spanned commercial, aerospace/defense and academic domains.
Alain Tapp
Alain Tapp is a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Operations Research (DIRO) at the Université de Montréal. After a prolific career in quantum computing, he recently became an associate member of the Montreal Institute for Learning Algorithms (MILA) and is now fully dedicated to the field of artificial intelligence. His interests include machine learning techniques, but also the impact of these technologies on society.
Brigitte Jaumard
Brigitte Jaumard holds a Concordia University Research Chair, Tier 1, on the Optimization of Communication Networks in the Computer Science and Software Engineering (CSE) Department at Concordia University. Her research focuses on mathematical modeling and algorithm design for large-scale optimization (i.e., optimization problems with millions of variables) problems arising in communication networks, transportation and logistics networks and in artificial intelligence (reasoning under uncertainty and automated mechanism design, e.g., in social networks).
Recent studies include the design of efficient algorithms for network design, dimensioning and provisioning, scheduling algorithms in edge-computing and clouds, and 5G networks. In Artificial Intelligence, contributions include the development of efficient optimization algorithms for reasoning under uncertainty, automated mechanical design in, e.g., social networks, and the design of trust estimator tools. More recently, B. Jaumard investigated the design of machine learning algorithms in medicine, logistics networking.
B. Jaumard has published over 300 papers in international journals in Operations Research and in Telecommunications.
Pascal Traverse
Pascal Traverse is general manager for autonomy research at Airbus, where he implements strategic vision and coordinates research and technology (R&T) activities for the company. He was previously a coordinator for Airbus's commercial R&T activities related to the cockpit and flight operations. Traverse holds master's and doctorate degrees in embedded systems from N7, and conducted research in LAAS and UCLA.
Guillaume Gaudron
Guillaume Gaudron , executive AI strategist at IRT Saint Exupéry, director of the Montreal branch. Holder of a PhD in Applied Mathematics for work carried out at INRIA, alumnus of Ecole Polytechnique and ENSAE ParisTech, senior official of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, he joined IRT Saint Exupéry in 2017 to develop artificial intelligence.
Martin Trépanier
Martin Trépanier is a civil engineer and full professor in the Department of Mathematics and Industrial Engineering at Polytechnique Montréal. His research focuses on urban transportation planning, snow removal and freight transportation. He collaborates with the Mobility Chair on Sustainability in Transportation. He is Director of the Interuniversity Research Centre on Enterprise Networks, Logistics and Transportation (CIRRELT).
Houari A. Sahraoui
Houari A. Sahraoui is a full professor in the Department of Computer Science and Operations Research (GEODES Software Engineering Laboratory) at the Université de Montréal. Prior to joining the university, he worked as a principal investigator in the Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering group at the Centre de Recherche Informatique de Montréal. He obtained an engineering degree from the Institut National d'Informatique (1990), Algiers, Algeria, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Pierre and Marie Curie University. His research interests include the application of artificial intelligence techniques to software engineering, the metrics and quality of object-based software, software visualization, and re-engineering.

His expertise includes computer science, computer engineering, machine learning, artificial intelligence, mathematics and statistics, statistical inference, optics, photonics and lasers as well as pattern recognition.

Robert Beaudry

Doina Precup
Doina Precup holds a Canada Research Chair in Machine Learning at McGill University's School of Computer Science, where she has taught since 2000. His research interests are reinforcement learning, time-series data analysis, and applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning in fields such as medicine and automated control. Doina Precup is a Senior Fellow of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research and a Distinguished Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI).

Aurélie Hélouie
An engineer and MBA by training, Aurélie Hélouie has an atypical background, from officer of the French Naval Aeronautics to business development in a large group and entrepreneurship. She joined the MILA team to take care of the internship component of the professional master's degree in relation to industry.

Thomas Reid is Head of AI at Bombardier where he works on leading the development of state-of-the-art AI solutions for the aerospace and transportation industry. His work includes the development of advanced simulation and optimization products for a wide variety of industries: in-flight icing, thermal ice protection systems, wind turbines operated in cold climates, and food processing.

Nicholas Asher
Nicholas Asher is Director of Research for the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). His laboratory is the Institut de Recherche en Informatique de Toulouse (IRIT), where he is a member of the MELODI group. He works on formal semantics and pragmatics, discourse structure and lexical semantics.
